The Merchant Account Industry

The merchant account industry can be fairly complex and take some time to understand. In the most basic sense, a merchant account allows a business to accept credit cards. This can be in several forms, such as a terminal at a retail store, over the internet where the customer enters their credit card details into a payment form, or any of several other ways.

As a potential affiliate, you should want the merchant that you are partnering with to offer a “better” product or service. Specifically, your partner should have certain competitive advantages that will translate into a higher conversion ratio.

Here are important competitive advantages that UBC offers over its competitors:

Free Equipment – UBC is the pioneer of offering merchants, regardless of size or processing volume, a state-of-the-art free terminal. We also offer a free check reader, and a free wireless terminal. This is an extremely important aspect of any merchant account affiliate program that will ensure you have a higher than normal conversion rate. The wholesale cost of the three items is a little under $1000. Typically, the same terminal we give to the merchant for free other companies might sell for anywhere between $500 to $1,500 (leased).

Our Competitors and Leasing – Most merchant account providers are still trying to sign up merchants on a leasing contract. Typically, when a merchant is getting started in accepting credit cards they can either A) buy the terminal outright, or B) lease the terminal, and now, C) with UBC receive the terminal completely for free. If a merchant chooses to lease the terminal the sales personal will typically sign the merchant up on a multi-year contract paying a certain monthly fee to lease the terminal. The leasing company would then pay the merchant account provider the entire amount that the equipment was sold at, resulting in at least a thousand dollar upfront sale for the merchant account provider.

Interchange-Plus Pricing – Most merchants don’t understand all of the rates and fees that they may be charged when they sign up for a merchant account. The typical approach is to tell the merchant a standard discount rate, transaction rate, and a monthly statement fee. We take an honest and consultative approach and help the merchant understand the various rates, and how interchange comes into play. This is especially critical to your conversion ratios for existing merchant accounts. We can often save existing merchant accounts, on average anywhere from $50 to $150 or more, depending on their volume, with our interchange-plus pricing program.

Our Merchant Account Benefits – The BIG benefit in our affiliate program is the benefits our customers receive. This will translate into a higher conversion ratio and ultimately benefits our affiliates as well.

Payout – The payout amount we offer is another BIG benefit of our merchant account affiliate program. The ABSOLUTE MINIMUM you'll make for a merchant account referral is $150.00. Unlike other programs, there aren't 50 different "requirements" to get a decent payout. We don't set your payout amount based on some artificial judgment on the account's value, such as the merchant's processing total volume, or if we could stick them with a high rate. Other merchant account affiliate programs don’t even come close. We pay a staggering $250 for a retail merchant account that signs up for our free terminal program, and $150 for any other type of merchant account. That means the minimum you'll make if a lead results in a merchant account is $150. Regardless of if it's an internet or retail merchant account, or a new business that doesn't process a dime yet.

If you compare merchant account affiliate programs, you’ll notice that we compensate our partners much more. Most competing merchant account affiliate programs compensate fairly low such as $10 to $15 per lead, or $50 to $100 (at most) per sale or sign up.

Independent Third Party Affiliate Software – We use an independent third party affiliate software to track conversions, and make payments. You can ensure that the stats are correct.

Non-Expiring Cookie – The cookie that tracks the click to lead part of the process is non-expiring (set to 10 years). Surprisingly, most merchants set their cookie to expire after 30 days. We believe that it doesn’t matter if they take 30 days or a year. The bottom line is if you made the referral, you should get credit for the sale.

Ad Media – We have a great sample of ads in every size possible. Please click here to access our affiliate ad media area. There are banners in every size, e-mail copy, and so on. It’s always expanding, so check it out often. If you have a great converting e-mail, or banners, send them to us via an e-mail and we’ll make them public and create the ad in every size.
